BBC News 23rd May 2012 The number of UK students who have applied to study at universities in the Republic of Ireland has risen by 28%, according to preliminary figures. The Republic's Central Applications Office (CAO) confirmed 2,455 students from the UK have applied so far this year, compared with 1,923 last year.
In the Republic, fees are much lower than in England, at €2,250 (£1,810) per year.
