Programme profile


This programme provides students with a broad-based business education,  to enable them to work successfully in business. It offers students the opportunity to specialise in one of five streams.

You will study a variety of business subjects and develop a general understanding of the administrative, economic, legal and social environment within which business operates. You will study the basics of business and get an insight into many business disciplines in years one and two. In year three you can specialise in marketing, human resource management or information systems management. In year four you can specialise in economics and finance, human resource management, management, marketing or rural enterprise and agri-business. There is a strong emphasis on the current business environment and acquiring the skills and knowledge required for employment in business. Case studies and practical business projects are used to develop students' analysis, communication and professional business skills.

Year 1
Mandatory: Financial Accounting, Cost & Management Accounting, Micro-Economics, Macro-economics, Computing and Information Systems, Business Communications, Business Maths, Irish Legal System, Management Principles and Business Environment, Learning to Learn

Electives: Language and Culture (Spanish, French, German, Gaeilge) or Effective English

Year 2
Mandatory: Principles of Marketing, Behavioural Science, Business Law, Business Information Systems, Human Resource Management, Management Information Systems
Electives: Quantitative Techniques, Management Accounting, Business Management, Selling Techniques, Internet Technology, Language and Culture (Spanish, French, German, Gaeilge)

Year 3
Mandatory: E-Business Information Systems, Enterprise Development, Financial Management, Operations Management, Enterprise Project, Intermediate Macroeconomics.

Entry Requirements


Students must present six subjects of which two must be at grade C or above at Advanced GCE (A-Level. The other subjects must be at least at grade C or above on GCSE or Advanced Subsidiary GCE (AS) papers. The six subjects must include: English, Mathematics and a language other than English
