Programme profile
This joint degree aims to provide its graduates with the knowledge and skills necessary to work in the technical field of computer science and information systems and to provide the business management skills needed to understand the fundamentals of markets, organisations and business management.
From a computer science perspective, at the end of the course graduates will be able to design, implement/engineer and evaluate computer-based systems, processes and programs/applications to meet desired objectives and specifications. From a business perspective, at the end of the course graduates will be able to analyse and solve a variety of problems in the private and public sector from a multi-disciplinary knowledge basis of theories in business. Overall at the end of the course graduates will be able to apply their knowledge of computer science, mathematics, business and management, along with their problem
Programme content
Year 1: Introduction to organisations and management, Introduction to economic policy; Statistical analysis; Mathematics, Introduction to programming; Programming project; Business computing systems; Introduction to computing.
Year 2: Marketing management, Organisational behaviour, Introduction to operations management, Introduction to accounting, Financial analysis and Introduction to finance; Programming techniques; Telecommunications and information management; either Systems programming or Systems analysis and design.
Year 3: Elective modules from both subject areas, from:
Business: Human resource management; Operations management; Financial and management accounting; Marketing management; Applied finance; Organisation theory and change.
Computer science: Applied probability; Symbolic programming; Software engineering; Computer architecture; Information management; Concurrent systems;Computers and society ; Software engineering group project; Artificial intelligence; Telecommunications; Compiler design; E-business and E-commerce
Year 4: students take one business subject and the computer science final-year project. The remaining subjects can be drawn from wide range of electives
Entry Requirements
Students must present six subjects of which two must be at grade C or above at Advanced GCE (A-Level. The other subjects must be at least at grade C or above on GCSE or Advanced Subsidiary GCE (AS) papers. The six subjects must include: English, Mathematics and a language other than English.
