Programme profile

Launched in 2009, this English-taught programme aims to ensure that graduates will be provided with a strong scientific background and the theoretical and practical preparation in medical practice and methodologies necessary for lifelong learning, as well as a high level of professional independence. The training is characterised by a holistic approach to health problems in relation to their surrounding chemical-physical, biological and social environment.

For research, teaching and training purposes, the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Pavia makes use of the high concentration of health clinics in Pavia. In particular, the San Matteo Foundation is internationally acknowledged for its excellence in many fields such as cardiosurgery (world record in heart transplants), haematology, and infectious diseases.

A large number of medical therapies and complicated surgical procedures, especially in the field of transplantation (bone marrow, heart, lungs and other) are performed in the clinical structures associated to the Faculty. not only all common diseases are treated, but also rare and chronic syndromes. A wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic treatment options are available for metabolic diseases, allergies and diseases of the central and peripheral nervous system. Patients with complex diseases, cancer and other disorders requiring a comprehensive treatment benefit from the interdisciplinary cooperation.
