This degree is designed to provide the graduate with not only a sound academic foundation but also the practical skills and competencies with which to build a solid career as a professional veterinary nurse.
Programme content
Stages 1 and 2 of the programme will be carried out on the university campus (excluding work experience) with students receiving a high-quality education through lectures, tutorials and practical classes covering all aspects of veterinary nursing. Modules in Stages 1 and 2 include but are not restricted to: Comparative Veterinary Anatomy & Physiology I; General Veterinary Nursing; Principles of Animal Nutrition; Animal Behaviour and Welfare; Small Animal Work Experience; Large Animal Work Experience; Veterinary Anaesthesia & Therapeutics.
In Stages 3 and 4, you will undertake a range of additional modules and also undertake work placements within veterinary practices that are committed to veterinary nurse training. The curriculum for the degree programme reflects the demand on the Irish veterinary nurse in practice by incorporating teaching on small animal (including exotics), farm animal and equine nursing.
Entry Requirements
Students must present six subjects of which two must be at grade C or above at Advanced GCE (A-Level. The other subjects must be at least at grade C or above on GCSE or Advanced Subsidiary GCE (AS) papers. The six subjects must include: English, Mathematics and a language other than English.
A-Level required in one of: Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Home Economics, at Grade C or above
