Programme profile

This programme offered jointly by Wageningen University [where you will spend your third year] and NHTV Breda.

This programme takes an academic approach to tourism whereas the 4-year Tourism Management programme is much more applied in approach and prepares you for a front-line career in the sector. After graduation you can decide to continue to Masters level or you can find a job in areas such as strategic tourism policy making, tourism marketing and management or in research positions at a research or consultancy firm.

Programme content

This programme is delivered by staff from both NHTV and Wageningen University. Year 1 and 2 take place in Breda. In the first year it is important that you obtain a broad overview of the sector, as tourism is such a diverse phenomenon. In the second year you will deepen and broaden your knowledge. This year includes an international field project in South-east Asia. The third year takes place in Wageningen and consists of your bachelor's thesis and a minor of your own choice.

In the programme you learn to adopt an interdisciplinary perspective to the complex tourism phenomenon. You obtain academic knowledge and learn to perform scientific research on current economic, social and environmental issues linked to tourism and recreation. Examples of such issues are industry transformation, destination management & development, urban-rural relationships, poverty alleviation, and climate change. The key focus of this academic bachelor is on sustainable tourism development.
