Programme profile
Knowledge underpinning psychiatric nursing practice is evidence-based. Lectures draw upon knowledge from the biological, sociological, behavioural and nursing sciences. Emphasis is placed on developing your critical-thinking abilities and learning through the process of self-reflection.
Programme content
During Stage 1, the focus is on the development of foundational knowledge and skills for practice, and draws upon knowledge from the biological, sociological, behavioural and nursing sciences.
In Stages 2 & 3 you will learn about different forms of psychiatric illness and related nursing care. You will also have the opportunity to practise at unique and sought-after clinical sites.
Stage 4 prepares you for the broader professional role of psychiatric nursing with modules in management, teaching, research and health promotion. Included in this stage is a nine-month clinical placement, which gives you the opportunity to consolidate your knowledge and skills and gain confidence in practice before you embark on your career.
Entry Requirements
Students must present six subjects of which two must be at grade C or above at Advanced GCE (A-Level. The other subjects must be at least at grade C or above on GCSE or Advanced Subsidiary GCE (AS) papers. The six subjects must include: English, Mathematics, a Lab Science subject and a language other than English.
