Programme content
Stage 1: The aim of Stage 1 is to give you a strong foundation that will underpin your practice. Modules are taken in nursing and the biological, behavioural and social sciences. You also get to experience the hospital setting and real patient situations. Before going into the hospital you will learn and practise basic nursing skills in our state-of-the-art clinical-skills laboratories.
Stage 2 & 3: These two stages prepare you further theoretically and clinically for the diversity of general nursing. You have the opportunity to experience many specialty areas such as paediatrics, accident & emergency, maternity, community and operating theatre.
Stage 4: The final stage prepares you for the broader professional role of nursing with modules in management, teaching, research and health promotion. This is followed by a nine-month clinical placement, which gives you the opportunity to consolidate your knowledge and skills and gain confidence in practice before you embark on your career.
Progression
On successful completion a graduate is eligible to apply for a professional registration (RGN, RPN or RNID) with the Irish Nursing Board
Entry Requirements
Students must present six subjects of which two must be at grade C or above at Advanced GCE (A-Level. The other subjects must be at least at grade C or above on GCSE or Advanced Subsidiary GCE (AS) papers. The six subjects must include: English, Mathematics, a Lab Science subject and a language other than English.
