Programme profile
The BSc in Economics and Business Administration provides you with the knowledge and capabilities needed to understand business management on national and global scale. It is structured to reflect the dynamic interplay of business and economics with sustainable company growth and social development. The degree reflects the complexity of the evolving business environment, but it also maintains the philosophy of the Danish university education in business and economics that prospective business leaders need a sound understanding of economics and management to be able to ensure sustainable social prosperity.
AAU's strong links with industry mean that rigorous undergraduate academic study is combined with a real practical focus. The projects that you will undertake as part of your studies are based on Problem-Based Learning, also known as ‘the Aalborg Model'. It requires from students to identify real-life problems faced by firms and implement a multidisciplinary approach in solving them. The integrated company project in the fifth semester of the course reflects the commitment of the programme to cohesive business-university interaction.
Programme content
Year 1 introduces the problem-based understanding of society, social science research philosophy and the importance of ethics in business, and the relationship between economic, political and social development. The second semester brings together key themes of economic and management theory, strategic management, marketing, finance and accounting, and research methods. You will develop projects in which you should integrate and apply your knowledge across the themes taught in each of the two semesters.
In the second year you begin to understand better the nature of organisations and their behavior, the great complexity of managing organizations, the ever increasing role of entrepreneurship and innovation for firm survival, development and growth, the importance of management accounting and IT, and business analytics.
You will also learn about the basic elements and functions of companies developing skills in analysis, discussion and problem solving using theories, models and appropriate research methods.
In Year 3, you will develop skills in company-based research using problem formulation, data collection and analysis, theoretical input and critical reflection to integrate practical problem solutions with theoretical analysis and synthesis.
An integrated company project will be based in a specific company. Your work on the project will be supported by course activities that will enrich your knowledge in functional areas, business processes and practices. In the final semester of your studies, you can choose two elective modules in your area of interest. These may or may not be related to the topic of your final Bachelor thesis, which you will have to complete by the end of the sixth semester
