Law is a fascinating, challenging and often controversial subject to study because it is an area that touches on our every day lives in many ways. The range of diverse and stimulating topics offered in the study of Law at University College Cork equips graduates for an extensive array of careers. The knowledge and skills acquired by Law graduates enhances their confidence and ability in the workplace and provides them with a balanced and varied foundation regardless of career path pursued.
This programme provides students with a broad understanding of the fundamental concepts of Irish and International Law, whilst also presenting students with a choice of specialised areas of legal study.
Programme content
Year 1: Introduction to the Legal System; Constitutional Law; Law of Contract; Criminal Law; Legal Research and Writing; Elective
Year 2: Law of Property; European Law; Law of Torts; Statutory Interpretation and Analysis; Law or Language or Business Electives
Year 3: Law of Equity; Jurisprudence; Moot Court; Law Electives
Entry Requirements
Students must present six subjects of which two must be at grade C or above at Advanced GCE (A-Level. Others must be at least at grade C or above on GCSE or Advanced Subsidiary GCE (AS) papers. The six subjects above must include:English, Mathematics and a language other than English.
