Programme profile


Horticulture is the art and science of plant cultivation for human use. If you like biology or other science subjects, or you are interested in business studies, home economics or languages then this course may be for you. It will give you an appreciation of the importance of plants for human life.

The programme covers the sciences, environmental studies, business, management and communications, and, of course, growing plants. Landscape and Sportsturf Management focuses on the science behind developing and maintaining Ireland

Programme content


Stages 1 & 2:
The emphasis in Stage 1 is on ensuring you have a good knowledge of the core sciences, while Stage 2 covers the applied sciences such as Chemistry, Soil Science and Plant Physiology, as well as modules and electives in Business Management and Fundamentals of Horticulture.

Stages 3 & 4:
Core modules are covered in the latter two stages, including Nursery/Garden Centre Management & Retail Horticulture, Food Production, Sportsturf Management and Landscape Management & Garden Design.

Entry Requirements


Passes in 6 recognised subjects with at least two subjects at Grade C or better in GCE A-Levels or equivalent, and at least four subjects at Grade C or better in GCE O-Levels or equivalent.
