Programme profile
This programme is an excellent grounding for a career in maritime management. Graduates from this programme are professional and versatile master mariners, qualified for European and International careers. The most career is at obvious career destination is at sea as an officer on board any type of vessel: Finnish master mariners are well respected on the international market and graduates are hired globally. The maritime industry offers land-based positions within authorities, shipping companies, brokers, insurance companies, yards, logistics, and so on.
This programme offers a wide variety of possible specialisations. The nature of the studies however is such that true specialisation takes place while working at sea, not in the classroom. The training is closely related to practice and simulators, workshops, rescue boats and training vessels form a significant part of the study environment. A significant part of the programme is realised as onboard training. The onboard training is mostly carried out on Finnish ships, but ships under other flags are also used.
