Programme profile
If you have a questioning attitude and good reasoning skills you will really enjoy the world opened up by psychology. Psychology has links to the natural sciences, the social sciences and the arts, so it is likely to appeal to a wide variety of people.
The programme has core modules that will introduce you to major theories and research methods, and you will also have a chance to choose option modules in specialist areas of psychology (e.g. counselling, clinical psychology and forensic psychology). Final year students undertake an independent piece of research under the direction of one of the academic staff.
Programme content
In Stage 1, you will be introduced to four key areas within Psychology: Brain and Behaviour; Social Psychology; Perception and Cognition (thinking and reasoning); and Research in Psychology. You also have the option to take two further modules on general and applied psychology.
In Stage 2, you will focus on Psychology as a single subject degree. This includes the key areas introduced at Stage 1 but you will also begin to learn about carrying out psychological research by taking two modules of laboratory practicals, as well as modules on research methods and statistics.

The degree is recognised by the Psychological Society of Ireland
Entry Requirements
Students must present six subjects of which two must be at grade C or above at Advanced GCE (A-Level. Others must be at least at grade C or above on GCSE or Advanced Subsidiary GCE (AS) papers. The six subjects above must include:English, Mathematics and a language other than English.
