Leipzig
City profile
Leipzig, situated about a hundred miles south of Berlin at the confluence of the Weisse Elster, Pleisse and Parthe rivers, has a population of about 525,000. It has a great reputation as a lively student town.
Leipzig's pub crawl in the city centre is unique. Here the bars, pubs and restaurants are lined up in a row and become the magnet for the so called Honky Tonk Pub Festival, which is the largest of its kind in Europe: it takes place twice a year.
The city has many attractive 'shopping passages' - the most beautiful one is the four-storey 140m long Madler-Passage with the statues of Faust and Mephisto at Auerbachs Keller restaurant.
