Hamburg is the second-largest city in Germany and the seventh-largest city in the European Union. The city is home to over 1.8 million people. Situated on the river Elbe, the port of Hamburg is the third-largest port in Europe (after the Port of Rotterdam and the Port of Antwerp. It is a very wealthy city.
Badly destroyed in the last war, Hamburg has been imaginatively reconstructed in a wide range of styles. It offers more than 40 theatres, 60 museums and 100 music venues and clubs.. More than 8,000 companies are engaged in the culture sector, which includes music, performing arts and literature.
